Specialized Personal Disability Assistant Services
This program provides a staff member as a personal disability assistant to support families / caretakers of individuals with developmental disabilities. The personal assistant support from CFA can provide for a variety of supportive services, including respite, daycare, and attendant care while implementing behavior management techniques. This is supplementary support, and not meant to be used as a standalone program, but rather a secondary service to an existing ABA program.
A Personal Disability Assistant from CFA Provides Support in Three Ways
In-Home Daycare
This service is for those clients under the age of 18 years who are not able to attend a mainstream daycare program due to significant behavioral challenges. In-Home Daycare may also be purchased for adults who live at home if the parents work. In-Home Daycare provides client care and supervision, in conjunction with behavior management support, so that a parent or caretaker can go to work or attend to other professional obligations.
Attendant Care
This service support is designed for a client of any age, for a parent or caretaker who needs assistance in meeting the client’s care and supervision needs. This includes 1:1 support within a residential facility or program. When this service is purchased for clients under the age of 18 who live at home, it is a requirement of the service that the family member remains at home and continues to assume the role of primary caretaker of the client. This service does not include watching the client while the parent or caretaker runs errands or otherwise leaves the home. Attendant Care staff do not administer medication, perform medical services, or assume direct care taking needs (i.e., bathing, hygiene), as such activities remain the primary responsibility of the family member or facility staff who remain as primary caretaker. When Attendant Care is purchased for adult clients, this may be due to clients who require a specialized level of support in order to attend a specific program or activity, essentially acting as a one-to-one aide.
Respite
This supplementary service consists of regularly scheduled, temporary, non-medical care and supervision of a client residing with a family member. Respite is only provided in the client’s home. Respite services provide relief, so that a well-rested parent or caretaker can attend to their personal obligations. Specialized Respite’s short-term goal is to provide that relief, while being implemented as an addition to an existing ABA program.
