Residential Facilities & Day Program
Supporting residential Facilities And Day Program staff And Managers
CFA’s residential facilities and day program consultation is aimed at providing direct support staff (DSPs), administrators, and managers with the behavior support plan strategies and skill sets they need to effectively support clients with challenging behaviors, including targeting and promoting positive skill development.
Supporting Residential Facilities & Day Programs
Many facilities and programs have problems surrounding consistent support plan implementation, positively engaging programmatic environments, and DSP training. CFA can provide support with clarifying staff expectations, providing performance based training and on the job coaching, and development of individualized support strategies.
Behavior support plan strategies are developed based upon the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
Behavior consultants do many things for clients in residential and day program settings. Here is a list of the things they do that add the most value for service providers and clients:
-
- Conduct functional assessments and prepare functional behavior assessment reports (FBAs).
- Develop behavior data collection tools and analyze behavior data to determine if there has been behavioral progress.
- Prepare behavior support plans (BSPs), which are derived from the recommendations in the functional behavior assessment.
- Train direct service professionals (DSPs) and administrators to effectively implement BSPs.
- Observe DSPs implementing BSPs with clients and provide coaching and feedback to DSPs and administrators.
- Troubleshoot probable issues when there has been no significant improvement in clients’ behavior and make appropriate changes.
It is important to CFA that every client be supported in their environment.
This support is meant to promote changes in a client’s behavior that allow for achievement of meaningful service outcomes. A meaningful outcome means that a person can access and take part in their community, such as obtaining a job, spending more time with their family and friends, and living more independently.
CFA Consultants at residential and day program settings perform a variety of activities in addition to conducting functional behavior assessments and developing support plans. CFA consultants additionally offers onsite (on the floor) coaching alongside residential and day program DSPs, performance feedback to DSPs and administrators, data analyzation to review trends and progress, in-service training delivery (CEUs for DSPs), and attendance at any client specific meetings (i.e. IPPs)
